Renovation and Optimization

Spirofil possesses the expertise to ensure your
dewatering installation operates at optimal efficiency
with the highest possible yield!

Spirofil performs renovations on dewatering installations, focusing on belt filter presses, dewatering tables, or belt thickeners, and chamber filter presses. During a renovation, a machine is restored to like-new condition, with potential upgrades and optimizations implemented. This requires careful preparation and planning, where we work with you to develop a solution-oriented approach that minimizes disruption to your (continuous) dewatering process.

For example, during a renovation, a mobile dewatering unit may be deployed to temporarily take over operations.

The execution phase can range from a few days to several weeks. Renovations can be carried out either on-site or in our own workshop, depending on your specific situation. Our in-house expertise is complemented by support from reliable partners with whom we have collaborated for years.

Optimization of your installation can be combined with a renovation but can also be performed separately.

What is important in renovations?

Several key components often play a crucial role in renovations. These are parts that, after years of intensive use, have worn out to the point where replacement or refurbishment is necessary. Examples include rollers or cylinders, the frame structure of an installation or the bearing housings, the tensioning and steering mechanisms (used to tension and align the filter cloth or filter belt), pumps and gearboxes, and of course the hydraulics/pneumatics and control systems of an installation.

Rollers

The wear on rollers in your filter belt press or sieve belt press often has significant consequences for the control and lifespan of a spiral belt or woven belt. Spirofil renovates rollers so they can be used for years to come. Additionally, axle-end repairs are also possible.

Frame & Bearing houses

During the dewatering process, both the supporting structural parts (the frame) and bearing housings are heavily stressed. Spirofil repairs these components and provides them with new coatings. This process includes blasting the component, followed by galvanizing and/or applying a coating.

Tension Device & Control Device

Both the tensioning and steering mechanisms of the belt are subject to wear. These mechanisms are often pneumatic, hydraulic, or mechanical. At Spirofil, we readjust these systems and install new components if necessary.

Pumps & Gear Boxes

During a renovation, gearboxes, pumps, and associated electric motors are inspected and, if necessary, replaced or refurbished. If needed, the shafts can be aligned using laser equipment.

PLC Technology

During a renovation, the pneumatic and hydraulic systems, along with the PLC technology, are checked and updated if necessary. This technology is used for driving mechanical components or controlling installations.

Optimalization of your installation

If your dewatering installation is not operating optimally, it can lead to excessive sludge production. Our team analyzes your wastewater treatment process to identify potential improvements. Optimization leads to better control of sludge dewatering and processing costs. Below are some concrete examples of adjustments to your installation that can directly result in efficiency improvements.

Spirospuit®

Thorough cleaning of the filter belt is essential for a sieve belt press or dewatering table. If a spiral belt or woven belt is used normally, contamination is minimal and is kept clean by the existing system on an installation. However, if there is a change in sludge composition and dirt accumulates in the pores of the belt, it is not cleaned by this conventional system. This can also occur due to flocculants such as aluminum/iron chloride.

Often, a belt is replaced because it is too contaminated and cannot be cleaned anymore. Spirofil has developed an innovative solution that requires no modifications to the existing machine: the Spirospuit®. The Spirospuit® is custom-engineered, assembled, and installed for the customer. It increases the efficiency of the installation and the lifespan of the filter cloth (belt). It is a supplement to the conventional system.

Automatic brush cleaning spray tube

For cleaning a sieve belt press or dewatering table, a spray tube with spray plates or nozzles is used. Traditional cleaning of the spray tube or lance, almost always done manually with brushes, depends on the contamination level of the process water. To replace this manual operation, Spirofil has developed an additional solution that automatically cleans the spray tube radially and axially.

This system can be controlled by PLC, allowing the cleaning frequency and duration to be freely adjustable. This fully continuous provision ensures optimal operation of the installation without an operator manually cleaning the spray tube based on process parameters.

This provision is available in various standard versions and is assembled and installed for the customer. It supplements traditional cleaning and saves manpower at the installation site.

High pressure cleaning filter belt

Built-in cleaning systems, such as belt washing, in sieve belt presses or dewatering tables can usually be improved to clean the filter cloth (spiral belt or woven belt) more thoroughly, significantly increasing the efficiency of the dewatering installation.

Our unique belt washing system combines higher wash water pressure with special wash heads (swivels). This results in better and more thorough cleaning with much lower wash water and energy consumption. Reducing wash water is especially beneficial for the agricultural sector, as each cubic meter of polluted water produced on a farm is considered manure and must be specially processed with associated costs.

This cleaning system is custom-designed, assembled, and installed for the customer. It reduces the amount of wash water and can replace the traditional spray tube or lance.

Dynamic mixer

The dynamic mixer (type DPM) is specially developed for the optimal mixing between polymer and sludge. This mixer combines excellent performance with a relatively low investment. Using the mixer leads to a significant reduction in dilution water consumption, up to 90%! Additionally, the savings on polyelectrolyte dosage can be up to 25%.

With triangular mixing elements on the mixers, this mixer guarantees perfect mixing and prevents blockages thanks to its optimal geometry. Using injection where the polymer is injected on four tangents, the polymer is evenly distributed into the sludge stream. Then, the frequency-controlled mixer blends the polymer into the sludge stream (even with manure!).

This system results in lower polymer consumption and is universally applicable for thickening sludge streams using sieve belt presses, chamber filter presses, and other machines like centrifuges.
